Use of SERI Surgical Scaffold for Soft-tissue Support in a Massive Weight Loss Patient
نویسنده
چکیده
SUMMARY Patients with a history of massive weight loss have compromised and poor-quality skin and fascia. Various body contouring surgeries aim to improve appearance and shape of the trunk and restore fascial integrity. These patients may be at increased risk of recurrent fascial laxity or bulges after conventional techniques. Here, the author presents a case where a silk-based bioresorbable scaffold was used prophylactically in a massive weight loss patient undergoing a circumferential body lift.

1 Sir: S Surgical Scaffold (Allergan, Inc., Irvine, Calif.) is a silk-derived, bioresorbable scaffold approved in the United States for use as a transitory scaffold for soft-tissue support and repair to reinforce deficiencies where weakness or voids exist, including use in plastic and reconstructive surgery and general soft-tissue reconstruction. Its biomechanical properties are similar to thos...

BACKGROUND Soft-tissue support devices are used during breast reconstruction. This study investigated long-term clinical data following SERI Surgical Scaffold (SERI) implantation, a bioresorbable, silk-derived scaffold for soft-tissue support. METHODS This was a prospective, multicenter study in 103 subjects who received SERI during stage 1 of 2-stage breast reconstruction with subpectoral ti...

The management of soft tissue defects in tibial fractures is essential for limb preservation. Current techniques are not without complications and may lead to poor functional outcomes. A salvage method is described using three illustrative cases whereby a combination of flaps and antibiotic-impregnated polymethylmethacrylate beads are employed to fill the bony defect, fight the infection, and...
متن کاملSERI Surgical Scaffold as an Adjunct for Circumferential Abdominoplasty and Lower Body Lift
SUMMARY Patients who have undergone massive weight loss typically have poor-quality skin and fascia and thus are prone to experiencing recurrent skin laxity, bulges, and poor scarring after body contouring efforts, even in the hands of experienced surgeons. Moreover, this challenging patient population often has nutritional deficiencies and concomitant medical problems, which may lead to delaye...
متن کاملSERI Surgical Scaffold as an Adjunct to Conventional Brachioplasty
SUMMARY Although the popularity of longitudinal brachioplasty has grown tremendously in recent years, dealing with the unpredictable scar remains a challenge for the surgeon and the patient. The scar often heals slowly and widens over time, perpetuated by the effects of gravity, body movements, and the thin nature of the superficial fascial system (SFS) of the arm. Scar widening may correlate w...
